For the record, neither my husband nor I will ever patronize this establishment ever again.
For the record, the entire restaurant was only about 25% filled at the time we came out there, so it wasn't like they were overwhemed with clientele.
I was then told by some of the staff there that 'Mike' is the 'chef,' and that he 'doesn't like working weekends,' and so he often refuses to cook food on the weekends, and spends a lot of time berating the waiting staff there.
Had not been to this restaurant in several years. We were going to meet 2 other couples for an event in Toledo. I suggested this place for dinner ad it was close to our final destination, shame on me. $ 27 for a perch dinner was bad enough but $ 17 dollars for a perch basket was the worst. The fish was only served deep fried. Obviously frozen and pre-battered. It was soggy and not consumable. The salads were wilted and at least 3 to 4 days old. The cream of broccoli soup was like a ball of flour and gritty with sand. It was a terrible dining experience and is on my "never again" list.
P. S. I only gave it a one star rating, because it wouldn't let me give a zero star rating.
Their sign clearly says that the dining room is open until 11pm, and the bar is open until 1am. This will be pertinent later on in the story.
But this my first time ever in over fourteen years of living in the Point, where I have had a local establishment refuse to provide an advertised service, simply because their staff 'doesn't like working weekends.'
Awesome steamed shrimp in lemon butter, good Berger's, awesome fish meals! ! Boat docking... Fun place, live band on weekends on patio by the water. Service sometimes slow.
I normally don't post scathing reviews of places; I am not a petty or vindictive person.
We were told at 10:05 pm that the 'chef' was refusing to make our food, and we were asked if we could just cash out on the drinks instead. And we were told by someone there that we were the second set of customers to be told this.
This was my boyfriend and I's favorite place to go and the food became horrible 2 years ago. Last night we tried going back to see how the food is now.. it's worse.. my boyfriend came down with food poisoning from his walleye.. we will never go back again.
Perch was very good, grouper was ok. Service was phenomenal. The prices are a bit high and I was disappointed to see the place pretty empty. Great views of the water and a nice, cozy fireplace
At this point, I asked who was managing. I was told it was 'Mike.' I asked to speak with him. Someone went into the back to get him. They came back out a few minutes later, and said he 'wasn't available.'
We arrived there at 9:35 pm, and put in our food order for two appetizers at appropriately 9:50 pm.
My husband and I went there tonight (July 8, 2017), for some drinks and appetizers.
WARNING: MAY CAUSE FOOD POISONING
I was told to come back tomorrow to talk to 'Judy,' who is apprently the owner, but who was nowhere in sight tonight.
If you have the choice between eating a day-old, half- eaten bologna sandwich or going to The River Cafe, choose the bologna sandwich instead.
